Exposure compensation +/-
This is one of the most important things that you should know how to adjust on your camera.
Exposure comp sometimes called Exposure Value is used to adjust how light or dark your photos are when your camera takes an image.
The worst thing that you can to an image is to have an image that is too bright so being able to darken the image is Always of Prime importance.
ISO – Sensitivity
The general rule is to use the lowest possible ISO that you can in order to get in order to take your photo.
However sometimes you just want to set it and start taking photos, so here are some general rules.
ISO 200 is a great default setting, noise is low, image quality is great and it works well for most photographic situations.
ISO 400 is typically where Noise begins, unless you have a Full Frame camera then you may use a higher ISO before Noise begins.
One advantage of increasing your ISO (besides being able to photograph in low light without a flash) is that you can photograph with a higher shutter speed.
White Balance
This is used to help your camera know what colors look like.
If your photos are too Blue ,Red ,Yellow or any color other than what they should be then you have a White Balance problem.
If your image is too Red/Yellow, try Tungsten or incandescent
If it is too Blue, try Cloudy or Shade
You can also use White Balance to change the mood of your photo.
Try using the Florescent setting on a Sunset or Cloudy on a sunny day to get a Golden color in your photo.
Or if you just want an unusually looking try changing your White Balance.
How do I make my photographs more interesting?

Try a different time of day
